Study on the biology and ecology of Tuta absoluta in Xinjiang and the construction of Integrated Pest Management system

  • Objective To synthesize global research advances on Tuta absoluta and, in combination with the agricultural realities of the desert–oasis agroecosystem in Xinjiang, to develop a regionally adapted integrated pest management (IPM) strategy.
    Methods Based on a comprehensive literature review and statistical analysis, we systematically summarized research progress on the biological characteristics, ecological adaptation mechanisms, and control technologies of T. absoluta. These findings were further evaluated using multi-location field trial data from Xinjiang.
    Results T. absoluta exhibits strong ecological adaptability in Xinjiang. Its life history traits, host range, and developmental parameters are significantly regulated by environmental factors. Meanwhile, the species shows pronounced dispersal capacity and rapid evolution of insecticide resistance. Current control strategies—including biological control, physico-chemical trapping, and environmentally friendly chemical control—are effective to some extent; however, single measures fail to achieve long-term population suppression. Through technology screening and integration, a synergistic multi-strategy IPM framework was established.
    Conclusion An integrated control system centered on physico-chemical trapping and environmentally friendly chemical control demonstrates strong applicability in the desert–oasis agroecosystem of Xinjiang, achieving over 90% field control efficacy. This system provides critical technical support for region-specific green pest management and offers a practical reference for the sustainable control of invasive pests.
