Objective To explore the effects of 'Torvum' after local domestication and breeding on improving the low-temperature tolerance characteristics and physiological characteristics of plants when it is used as a rootstock in the planting process of tomato grafted seedlings.
Methods Taking the self-rooted seedlings as the control (CK), the grafted seedlings with 'Torvum' from Liaoning as the rootstock (LT) and the grafted seedlings with 'Torvum' after local domestication and breeding as the rootstock (DT) were set as two treatments respectively. The number of days of tolerance to 8 ℃ low temperature, changes in growth and physiological characteristics of the three treatments were analyzed and compared.
Results Compared with CK, the contents of POD, CAT and soluble sugar in DT and LT treatments were significantly increased, while the electrical conductivity and malondialdehyde content were significantly decreased. They could continuously tolerate 8 ℃ low temperature for 16−22 days, with the number of days of low-temperature tolerance being 3−12 days, and the yield increase reaching 41.12%−45.69%.
Conclusion When 'Torvum' is used as a rootstock for grafting in tomato production, it can effectively enhance the cold tolerance of plants, improve fruit quality and promote the increase of yield. Moreover, the seeds of 'Torvum' after breeding in the solar greenhouse in the north and used as rootstocks have better effects in production.
